Over the past few weeks, I’ve done about 30 interviews and several book events. I am not used to talking so much. Here’s what I’ve learned from book promotion:
Take media training. Doing two or three interviews and events daily can be overwhelming, and media training helps you feel calm and prepared.
Set up an area of your apartment with good lighting and a background for Zoom interviews. Assume that every radio, podcast, or phone interview will have a video component because everything these days goes on YouTube.
Do not expect the people who interview you to have read your book.
Limit how you consume book reviews, or don’t read them at all.
Do not, under any circumstances, listen to your own interviews.
Keep a list of good things. Managing expectations during book promotion is hard because it is like being overexposed and underexposed at the same time. One good thing - the book exists.
Keep faith that your book will find its people.

Great post. I'm looking forward to reading! Congratulations, Alice. 👋📚
Your book has found me, the child of immigrant healthcare workers navigating the world of labor injustice. I am fustrated and excited to read your stories of the lives of those we take for granted.
