Meeting with publishing houses in Spain
In interviews about my book, everyone wants to know if the poultry processing workers have read it. Oxford American published a Spanish translation of the Author’s Note, which I sent to workers. After reading it, one worker wrote, “Wow, me encanta leí un poco y está super interesante. Te rayaste Alicia con tu libro está chido no cabe duda que eres la mejor me siento orgullosa de ti”. They hope the book will be published in Spanish so they can read it.
Last week, I traveled to Spain to present my book at the VII Congreso de Mérida Periodismo de Migraciones. Journalists from Latin America and Spain attended (think feminist icons Luciana Peker and Luz Mely Reyes, the director of the Venezuelan news outlet Efecto Cocuyo). I was on a panel about book publishing moderated by an editor at Anagrama. I took the opportunity to meet with several book editors and discuss a Spanish translation in person. While my agent ultimately sells the language rights to the book, I believe the best things on this planet occur in person.

I certainly hope a Spanish translation is made possible. That would bring access to so many in the underserved communities. Thus strengthening the power of their voices in seeking change.
