A note from a rural voter
"Jesus Christ for President!" a man yelled at me as I walked into the courthouse
I vote in a dry county. I vote in the county where I was born, in rural Arkansas. I vote in the courthouse where I was married at 24.
I voted early. I voted with my whole body, knowing that my control over it was already at risk. I voted with my mind, which is filled with a lifetime of stories from women who have lived and died by the rules of the men regulating their bodies and their lives.
And when a man drove by the courthouse and yelled at me, “Jesus Christ for President!” I did not turn my head to look at him. The days of men telling women who they are going to vote for - those days are over.
VOTE
Alice
Alice Driver for President!
