the book publication routine
how many times can an author read their own manuscript before wanting to throw it in the river?
This week, I completed the fourth pass review of my book manuscript. I had to bribe myself with a gigantic cookie because I did not want to look at my manuscript again. Every time I read it, I find errors, which is terrifying. I am thankful to have a tremendous team supporting me at my publisher because I could not do this alone. After a day spent correcting the manuscript, I dreamed that I was covered in hair like a wolf.
The run-up to publication is a strange time because everyone thinks your book is done. The ARCS (Advanced Reader Copies) are printed and sent to book reviewers, but that is not the final manuscript. The process is stressful, crazy, and even maddening, and yet I want to do it forever!
Will I be the woman who became a wolf by publication day?
